A warm welcome to the Wealden Model Aircraft Society

The club was formed over 30 years ago and flies in the Wealden area. The flying sites are local for Crowborough, Uckfield, Heathfield, Tunbridge Wells, and now Polegate and Lewes residents so get in touch - all local and further afield are welcome!

We hold meetings on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 8pm. In the Summer (May-Sept) we move these meetings to the flying fields so that we can enjoy the great weather at 7pm! All meetings are held at the Five Ash Down Village Hall and we usually arrange activities and speakers and encourage all to bring their models to show to other members.

We fly fixed wing radio controlled (RC) model aircraft - (aeroplanes / airplanes) and helicopters at our flying sites.

Interested in other forms of RC - try racing at WKRCC

Wealden Warbirds

By Bob Hart

The Warbirds meeting went off very well. We counted 35 people, pilots and spectators, there around mid morning. We sold out on the BBQ which covered it's costs. The prizes, bottles of wine, for various achievements, were awarded to visitors Chris Searl, Steve Taylor and our own Bob Noble. Well done to them. Rod Palmer came and took some pics and we hope to put them on the website in due course. Thanks to all who supported this meeting.

Sad News

Chris Pilbeam, a long time member of the club, sadly passed away following debilitating illness. Apart from his flying he will be remembered as a dab hand with the BBQ. He will be sadly missed. Details of the funeral will be announced as soon we know the them.

Easy Starting at Rotherfield

Jim Tucker has kindly made and installed a Starter table at our Rotherfield site. The starter table raises your model off the ground so no more kneeling down or bending over your model to get it started. Much safer and kinder on your back! Well done and thanks to Jim

Winter Projects Club Night

The "bring your winter project" evening at the February club night meeting was very well attended. Lots of models to see from Vintage three channel through to a slope soaring Hawker Hunter, aerobatic aircraft, scale warbirds and turbine power. Please checkout the gallery for pictures or click the image on the right of this page.

Do you know when to close the Berwick Gate?

Well here it is from the farmer: Monday to Friday, if the gate is unlocked when you arrive please leave it open, at the weekend even if the gate was open when you arrived please ensure it is closed and locked when you leave, thanks all..

Site can be used all year depending on weather. Power restricted to 10.00 to 19.00, and 82dBa.

Tony Nijhuis comes to WealdenFlyers

Tony is well known in our model world for his excellent scale plans and huge scale plan builds. Tony has agreed to come to our April club night and give us a talk on this subject. Come along for a great night.

Parking at our flying Sites during wet weather

Please note that ALL Fields - Berwick and Rotherfield can be wet. The drive leading up to the field at Berwick can be difficult in wet weather so take care are extremely and don't drive to the fields. Also in Rotherfield please park in the yard before the field.

Berwick Noise Issue and Overflying

We have had a complaint about aircraft noise and overflying at the Berwick site. This originated from the occupant of the house over the hill to the left end (west) of the strip. Please ensure that you fly considerately and avoid flying to too far over the hill to the left hand side of the field (approx 10 o'clock as you stand in the pilots box).

Therefore please treat the hedgerow at the top of the hill to the left (west) end of the strip as the absolute limit of flight and fly well within this boundary. A map showing the ‘no-fly zone’ on the club website in due course.

Introducing - Club Sunday!

The club is getting bigger with more fields and members. This is fantastic and great for members as they can fly everyday from 3-4 sites but how do you make flying more sociable?

We have come up with a plan!

We want old and new members to know where the majority of people will be flying so we've introduced "Club Sunday".

On the 1st Sunday of every month we will nominate one of our sites as the Club Sunday field where you can come and meet other members to get to know each other and fly in a more sociable atmosphere.

The 1st Club Sunday is at Rotherfield on 4th March 2012.

Come along and meet your fellow flyers. In April we will meet at Berwick and Penshurst will be in May. We will then rotate! Check the left hand pane on this page to see where we are flying next. For more details see the events page.
